That would have been hilarious if Calgary really messed that up...I feel bad for their fans.
Edit: I also agree that Colorado shouldn't have matched. Those picks would have done better for them. |

Colorado should have taken the Top-5 pick Calgary was giving up as compensation. That way, they'd have two in the Top-10 and get rid of an overrated defensive center.
But alas.... |

The league should have advised the teams that he played after the lockout was over. The guy played over in Europe with his name changed a bit...NHL is stupid for making Feaster or any other GM who had zero knowledge that he had played.
NHL has looked like a joke since Bettman took over!!!! |

How absurd would it have been to not match the offer & then claim him on re-entry waivers? THAT would have been pure comedy. |

you know who needs a break?
the fine fans of Calgary.
they need a break from a brutal GM who has proven over and over that he is not only delusional but incompetent.
feaster is an absolute farce.

The entire situation is just another lovely example of how the league loves to shoot itself in the collective feet.
Creating a clause in the CBA that would make it impossible for a legitimate RFA to be moved via offer sheet...protects no one.
Calgary should be hopping mad that the CBA was so opaque. Had they lost O'Rielly via Waivers after signing him and loosing the draft picks...GM, ASST GM, GM's caddy...all would/should be unemployed.
This is just one of those "how to look bad" moments for everyone. Colorado really did the league a favor by signing.... |

The league is lucky the Avs matched and brought this whole thing to light. Or there would have been some unemployed people. |

You suck and you're a moron...end of story.
Anyway, I actually agree completely with Ek n this. Feaster should be cut some slack and COL should argue this one. ROR should still be sitting until he comes to his senses and signs for a reasonable amount. JMO.Z |

you mean making colossal oversights while being in charge of a multi-million dollar business isn't excusable?

Eklund: Give Feaster a Break. Should Colorado ask for a a "Do-over." - Eklund
I think Sherman should be raked over the coals for not doing his due diligence before matching much more than Feaster, who could have sued the league due to legal interpretation.
Instead, not only does Colorado not use any of their afforded week to research, they are handcuffed for an overpayment on a #2 C that they didn't really need (as much as they need D, for instance).
If you ask me, this should cause Sherman to be fired, not Feaster |

Ek said it in this blog, MANY GM's missed this; the obvious ones being involved, Feaster and Sherman.
Could it have been a colossal mistake, you betcha'! Is Feaster going to hear about this one from his bosses, yep. But, IMO the league should as embarrassed as anyone about this for creating yet another big loophole in the CBA.
I just hope everyone learns from this. |

Unfortunately, this still does not bring into light the fact that they traded for an AHLer, then sent down a younger guy doing the same job as said AHLer, because he had to to make room for O'Reilly...who likely would have been waived anyways.
So, in the end, Calgary is stuck with McGratton and a whole bunch of laughing, while Colorado is stuck with a locker room cancer potential, extra money on the rolls they cant afford, and a whole bunch of laughing for matching. |

Jay feaster is the worst gm among active managers in the NHL, and that was before this latest blunder. I would be scared poopless if he was in charge of my team. |

He won't be a UFA after a year, he'll still be an RFA...they just have to qualify him at the 6.5 million. |
